“Forgive and forget” means to give before receiving. To give is to receive; it is about giving and taking. You get what you give. Giving comes from within, while taking comes from without. Giving is letting go, and taking is letting in. “Forgive and forget” is for your own sake. (Forsake) Forgiveness comes from the heart, while forgetfulness comes from the mind. Forsakenness arises from our physical bodies.
The heart’s tendency is to fluctuate with sentimental emotions. It acts on desirous feelings, which can often be unreliable for those who are not in control of their emotions. Being sentimental means sensing (senti) more than reasoning (mental). A sentimental person reacts based on feelings, which can be unstable and unreliable. The essence of the heart is love, selfless in its giving tendencies. The mind, however, can be impulsive and instinctive, particularly for those who lead a more basic lifestyle or for those who are selfish, calculating, and manipulative in their lower nature, focusing solely on “to get.”
At a higher level, the mind matures with wisdom, realizing that there is an unlimited source accessible only by starting “to give,” letting go, detaching, and freeing oneself from attachment and greed. Upon awakening, a heart filled with love will give and sacrifice compassionately, while a mind that surrenders to the higher self gains wisdom. This person will then forsake egos, pride, self-interest, and the pursuit of fame and fortune for the greater good. In doing so, they enter the realm of nature.
Nature holds a rich history and art. Through its unique collections of the earliest and most comprehensive records of flora and fauna, as well as scientific, artistic, philosophical, and spiritual endeavors, one merges with the Cosmic and Universal Self. On a physical level, forsakenness can dominate. Our animal bodies often neglect our duties and life purposes, engaging in slumber, procrastination, and idleness. When unwilling to forsake this slumber, they give nothing and receive nothing.
Upon awakening the sacrificial heart of love and a surrendering mind of wisdom, one can renounce the burden of ignorance in favor of love and wisdom. They forsake idleness and slumber, choosing instead to serve as a great servant to the cause of love and wisdom—giving and receiving for the sake of truth. “Forgive, forget, and forsake” are three magnificent, magical, sacred sciences. For heaven’s sake, let’s forgive and forget.
Forsake all limiting beliefs, old patterns, guilt, regrets, blame, worries, fears, superstitions, and ritualistic practices. Give love, get wisdom for the sake of truth. Fill your heart with mercy, kindness, love, and compassion. Forsake your body with virtue, nobility, sincerity, and charity. Do not forget to rid your mind of ignorance, nescience, ego, and sensory gratifications, so that all the lives you touch will “know thyself.”
